A Charlotte woman was killed and two other people were seriously injured Wednesday morning in a two-car crash on Beatties Ford Road in northwestern Mecklenburg County, police say.
Donna Solomon, 60, died when the car in which she was riding was struck head-on by a car which Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say crossed the center line.
Seriously injured were Solomons husband, Melvin, 70, and 19-year-old Warnella Bryant, who was driving the other car.
Investigators say the collision took place about 9 a.m. near Rhian Brook Lane, not far from the Interstate 485 bridge. Police say Solomon was driving a 1994 Chrysler Lebaron convertible outbound on Beatties Ford Road, while Bryant was inbound in her 1996 Ford Mustang.
According to investigators, Bryants car crossed a double yellow line and struck the Chrysler nearly head-on.
Donna Solomon died at the scene. Her husband was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Bryant was taken via helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center, also suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Police say alcohol was not involved in the crash, but they said they will charge Bryant with misdemeanor death by vehicle when she is released from the hospital.
Beatties Ford Road was closed for about three hours after the crash.
