Rowan County woman charged with identity theft

Iredell County sheriff’s investigators have charged a Rowan County woman with two counts of identity theft.

Melissa Earnhardt, 33, of Rockwell, was in the Iredell County Detention Center on Wednesday under a $2,000 secured bond.

On April 30, a woman reported to sheriff’s investigators that she received two credit cards in the mail that she never applied for. The victim had also received text messages telling her to watch her credit, Sheriff Phil Redmond said.

Detectives obtained copies of the online application from the credit card companies showing the victim’s personal information being used, Redmond said. The credit card companies had also captured the IP address at the time of the online application, and detectives tracked the IP address through the Internet service provider to an address in Rowan County, Redmond said.
