Police cite DWI in high-speed I-77 wreck

One person was injured when a car slammed into a tractor-trailer on Interstate 77 early Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. near the Clanton Road exit. The driver of the car was charged with DWI, reckless driving and speeding.

The N.C. Highway Patrol said the driver, who was doing over 100 mph on I-77, lost control of the car, hit a wall, crossed into on coming traffic and slammed into a tractor-trailer.

Three people were in the car. One suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

All lanes have reopened on I-77 after being blocked for a few hours while crews cleared the scene.
