FORT MILL TOWNSHIP A Tega Cay man arrested and charged with six counts of using a digital camera to spy on women in the locker room of the Lake Wylie YMCA is accused of similar crimes at the Gold Hill YMCA in Fort Mill.
The suspect, John Ross Eddy, 58, turned himself in to York County Sheriff's Office deputies Saturday, a sheriff's office spokesman said.
The new charges are the result of an investigation into the alleged peeping at the Lake Wylie YMCA. The YCSO says detectives searching Eddy's home allegedly found evidence on the suspect's computer that led them to discover a digital video recorder hidden in the ceiling of the women's restroom at the Gold Hill branch of the YMCA on Gold Hill Road.
According to a statement from the YCSO, "Upon discovering this new evidence, Detectives moved forward issuing 74 more warrants of Peeping Voyeurism/Aggravated Voyeurism 1st Offense against Eddy." Several dozen women were recorded, the sheriff's office said.
Eddy turned himself in to authorities at the Moss Justice Center in York Saturday morning and is currently being held in the York County Detention Center, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office statement said "Under South Carolina Code of Laws, Statute 16-17-470(B)(1) the penalty for each charge of Peeping Voyeurism/Aggravated Voyeurism is $500 and/or three years in prison."
