2013 All-Observer Baseball

First Team

P: Hunter Harvey, Bandys, Sr.: No. 22 pick in the Major League Baseball draft is the son of former big-leaguer Bryan Harvey. This season, Harvey was 8-0 with 116 strikeouts and an 0.38 ERA. He allowed only two extra base hits all season.

P: Bailey Ober, Charlotte Christian, Sr.: College of Charleston recruit was 10-0 with an 0.45 ERA and 99 strikeouts for the N.C. 3A private school state champs.

OF: Alex Bostic, Weddington, Sr.: Clemson signee also pitched a handful of games. Led Union County with 12 home runs and led team to back-to-back N.C. 3A state titles, a first for a Union County team.

OF Nigel Hester, Piedmont, Jr.: Helped lead Piedmont to . 2A state title. Hester hit .429 with five triples, 23 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

OF; Malachi Hanes, Butler, Sr.: Catawba College recruit hit .484 with seven doubles, four triples, a home run and 15 RBIs. He had 69 strikeouts as a pitcher and opponents only hit .189 against him.

INF: Ryder Jones, Watauga, Sr.: N.C. Gatorade Player of the Year hit .461 with 11 home runs and 61 RBIs. Was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the second round of the MLB draft.

INF: Brooks Kennedy, South Mecklenburg, Jr: UNC recruit hit .383 with 22 RBIs and 32 stolen bases. Leadoff hitter helped Sabres win first state title in 24 years.

INF: Logan Redmond, Olympic, Sr: ME-GA 7 Player of the Year hit .305 with 29 RBIs. As a pitcher, he was 11-1 in 74 innings with an 0.85 ERA, 82 strikeouts and 16 walks.

INF: Ryder Ryan, North Mecklenburg, Jr.: Hit .593 with eight doubles, five home runs and 29 RBIs. As a pitcher, Ryan had an 0.72 ERA with 109 strikeouts.

C: Logan Koch, South Mecklenburg, Sr.: Switch-hitting South Carolina signee was an integral part of . 4A state champions’ offensive and defensive attacks.

UT: Earl Oliver, South Mecklenburg, Sr.: MVP of the 4A state championship series, Oliver finished the season with a 10-3 record, a 1.96 ERA with 63 strikeouts. On offense, he hit .369 with two home runs and 26 RBIs. Named Southwestern 4A Player of the Year.

All-Observer/All-Region players of the year: Ryder Jones, Watauga; Hunter Harvey, Bandys.

All-Observer/All-Mecklenburg coach of the year: Jon Tuscan, South Mecklenburg

All-Mecklenburg player of the year: Earl Oliver, South Mecklenburg

All-Region coach of the year: Milt Flow, Piedmont
