Mooresville police were investigating the death of a teenage boy found Saturday in a wooded area, Capt. Joseph Cooke said.

The body of the 14-year-old was found in the area next to Montibello Drive, in the Morrison Plantation community. The sidewalk-lined community is near the Lowe’s YMCA and Hope Park.

Police did not indentify the teen because of his age and added that they’re waiting for the autopsy report to determine the cause of death.

Cooke said that the teen’s parents thought he was spending the night at a friend’s house in the area. When he didn’t come home the next day, they started looking for him.

Around 5:03 p.m. Saturday, police received a call that neighbors had found the boy unresponsive in the woods.

Residents said they often saw the teen hanging around the neighborhood with other teenagers.
