A man died in an ATV accident overnight in Catawba County, according to officials.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service about 5:30 a.m. Monday at Slanting Bridge Road and Tradewinds Drive.

When they arrived, they found the man’s body was cold, suggesting he had been dead for hours, said Robert Gore, a 911 dispatcher.

The man has not been identified.

Fire and EMS reported to the scene.

“The vehicle may have gone off the road into a ditch, then went airborne and the victim was next to the stop sign with the ATV pressed into him,” said Gore.
