A missing Cabarrus County woman was found lying in water of a ravine near her home and taken to the hospital.
A Silver Alert was issued out of Cabarrus County for the missing woman, who authorities say suffers from Alzheimer’s.
Authorities say 68-year-old Dorothy Schnabel left her home in the 2400 block of Dutch Road around 4 p.m. on Tuesday to walk her dog.
By 6:30, her husband had returned home, and realized Dorothy herself had not yet returned from her walk.
Search teams actively looked for her, and Dorothy was found lying in the water of a ravine near her home in the 10 o’clock hour on Wednesday morning.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office says Dorothy was awake and talking with rescuers.
Dorothy was accompanied by her dog Duchess, a brown Doberman, who herself was a rescue dog. Apparently, authorities say, Duchess stayed with Dorothy all night long.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office credits the North Carolina Highway Patrol and use of their helicopter as "invaluable" in the effort to locate Dorothy.
