The winner: When I finish a major paint job, I always save the paint stirring stick. I write the room/job name and date on the handle. I store them all in a Pringles container. I then have ready access to all previous jobs. (Editor’s note: Put the same info on the can of paint.) Ed Carlson, Charlotte

New use for Observer bag

When I change my oil, I use the Observer bag to handle the oil filter until I can get it to the recycling center. Kathryn Johnson, Fort Mill

Wine bottle works garden wonders

If you have ever bent over in the garden to weed or pick vegetables and almost put your eye out on a garden stake, this tip is for you. Place empty wine bottles over the top of the stake and not only will your eyes be safe but it will add whimsy to your garden. Restaurants can supply empties if wine is not your thing! Pallet planter

We happened across this vertical planter at the Habitat for Humanity Restore in Gastonia. The slats were boarded up at the bottom to hold the soil. And we loved the simple wooden props that allowed it to stand upright. Type “pallet planter” into any search engine and you’ll see instructions for making one. Grab a can of spray paint while you’re at it. Clever staff
