Charlotte DWI checkpoint nets numerous charges

A total of 71 charges resulted from a Thursday night DWI checkpoint that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police held in southwest Charlotte.

Police charged eight people with driving while intoxicated and found three open containers of alcohol, according to officials.

The checkpoint ran from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the 900 block of Tyvola Road near Old Pineville Road.

The checking station was held in conjunction with the “Booze it and Lose it” Independence Day campaign, which runs through July 7.

Other violations discovered during the event include:

10 driving with a suspended driver’s license

17 no operator’s license

3 warrants

28 traffic violations (tags, inspections, insurance, etc.)

5 seatbelt violations
