City sets July 15 deadline for District 1 council applications

Steve Harrison

People interested in filling the District 1 City Council seat vacated by Patsy Kinsey have until July 15 at noon to apply with the city of Charlotte.

Kinsey was appointed to the job of mayor Monday by the City Council after Anthony Foxx resigned to become U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

To fill Kinsey’s seat, a resident must be a registered Democrat and live in District 1. Residents can apply at www.CharlotteNC.gov. Applications may also be submitted by email, fax or hard copy.

Council members are scheduled to vote on who will fill the seat at its July 22 meeting. Kinsey has said she is running for the District 1 seat in the upcoming fall elections. She has said she won’t run for mayor.
