Wednesday morning traffic update

The immediate Charlotte area is clear of major traffic problems at 9 a.m., except for some congestion.

But motorists headed northbound on Interstate 77 toward Virginia are encountering headaches in Statesville. A multi-vehicle wreck has closed all northbound lanes at 9 a.m.

Here is the 9 a.m. update:

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 from Exit 31 (Langtree Road) down to Exit 23 in Huntersville.

I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Exit 56 (George Liles Parkway) down to Exit 46 (Mallard Creek Church Road).

I-77 northbound, Statesville ... Collision reported about 8:50 a.m. near mile marker 50 (Broad Street exit); all lanes blocked initially; expect delays until 10 a.m.

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard to Woodlawn Road.

South Boulevard in South End ... Collision near Atherton Mills at 8:20 a.m.; minor delays.
