Hagan in Charlotte for college discussion

U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan will be in Charlotte on Wednesday morning to participate in a roundtable discussion with four college leaders on the topic of education affordability.

The program will be at UNC Charlotte’s Center City Campus. Joining Hagan will be UNCC Chancellor Phillip Dubois and presidents Ronald Carter of Johnson C. Smith University, Pamela Davies of Queens University of Charlotte, and Tony Zeiss of CPCC.

The program comes a week after Hagan introduced a Senate bill aimed at keeping low interest rates on federal Stafford loans. Many college students have taken out Stafford loans, but without congressional action, the interest rate on those loans climbed Monday from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. Hagan’s bill would maintain the 3.4 percent rate.
