A motorist was hospitalized with potentially life threatening injuries after a single-vehicle wreck on Chapel Grove Road in Gaston County Wednesday afternoon, a fire official said.

The motorist lost control of the vehicle, which then struck an embankment and overturned at Donnabrook Lane at 4:35 p.m., Chris Stowe of Crowder's Mountain Fire & Rescue said.

The driver, whose name hasn't been released, was transported to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, Stowe said.

The driver was alone in the vehicle, Stowe said.
