Power returns to Park Road Shopping Center area

In the midst of stormy weather zapping power around Charlotte this week, the Park Road Shopping Center area had a massive power outage Saturday afternoon because of equipment failure.

About 2,200 customers in the area lost power about 1:40 p.m., said Justin Landon, a Duke Energy spokesman, but most of it was restored by 7:30 p.m. as promised.

At 7:30 p.m., Duke Energy’s website showed 271 power outages in Mecklenburg County. About 3:15 p.m., there was a report of 5,486 outages, the bulk of which were from the shopping center area.

Much of the shopping center’s power reportedly returned four hours after later about 5:40 p.m.
