YORK A York woman was charged with assault after deputies say she forced a woman out of her house and hit her with a 29-inch metal baseball bat on Saturday.
Sometime after 6 a.m., deputies were called to Wood Road in York after receiving calls about an assault with a baseball bat, according to a York County sheriffs report. Deputies met with a woman, 46, who said Cheryl Ann Stewart was at her house but left in a black Chevrolet Blazer after calling police.
The woman told police that a drunken Stewart, 38, went to her house four times before Stewart grabbed her hair and forced the woman out of the house, the report states. Stewart hit the woman with a blue DeMarini Rumble 29-inch metal baseball bat, the report states.
Another woman arrived and told police that the victim had been watching her children overnight, the report states. The woman said she called Stewart, who admitted to her that she hit the other woman with the bat and called 9-1-1.
Police went to Stewarts home at Cedar Terrace apartments on East Liberty Street and arrested her, charging her with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, the report states.
On Monday afternoon, Stewart remained jailed without bond at the York County Detention Center.
