MYRTLE BEACH — Two males were rescued from the ocean Monday afternoon and taken to an area hospital, according to a police official.

A 16-year-old male, possibly from North Carolina, got into trouble while in the ocean in the area of 48th Avenue North, said beach supervisor Sgt. Phillip Cain with the Myrtle Beach Police Department. The area is residential and not guarded, he said.

A 34-year-old man, believed to be from Longs, went in to help and also got into trouble, Cain said.

Both males were pulled from the surf and were unresponsive, he said. They were transferred from the scene to Grand Strand Regional Hospital.
