John Belk/I-77 lane closures tonight

Several lanes and ramps on the John Belk Freeway and Interstate 77 will be closed Wednesday night and early Thursday for roadwork, the N.C. Department of Transportation says.

Crews with HRI Bridge Company are involved in a $5 million project to preserve 15 bridges on I-77 and I-277. It is part of a $430 million plan for preserving, replacing or repairing 450 bridges across the state.

The closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Thursday. They will involve:

– Two of three lanes on the outer loop of the John Belk Freeway at I-77.

– The ramp from northbound I-77 to westbound Wilkinson Boulevard (Exit 9).

– The ramp from the inner loop of the John Belk Freeway to southbound I-77 (Exit 1B).

– The right lane on southbound I-77 approaching Remount Road (Exit 8).
