Man held in Mooresville woman’s death

Police in Mooresville have charged a 26-year-old man in connection with what they say was a domestic-related homicide Wednesday afternoon.

Ignazio Vazquez has been charged with murder in the death of Alejandrina Marquez Escobar, 29. The victim was found stabbed to death inside her townhome shortly after noon. She lived on Agape Drive in the Piedmont Pointe Townhomes off N.C. 150, north of Mooresville’s central business district.

Vazquez was arrested Wednesday evening and made an initial court appearance Thursday morning in Statesville. Police said Vazquez and Escobar had a domestic relationship.

The Observer’s news partner, WCNC-TV, reported that relatives said the suspect was “obsessed with” Escobar. Relatives also told NBC Charlotte that the woman had a 4-year-old child.
