Family displaced by University City fire

All residents escaped safely after a fire tore through part of their Charlotte home.

It started around 10 a.m. Friday at the home in the 10800 block of Dungarvon Court.

The fire department said flames and heavy smoke could be seen coming from the house. Crews were able to extinguish the fire safely.

The family of seven will stay with relatives. The upper level of the house was scorched.

No word on what caused the fire.
