Area storm victims can get federal aid

ALBEMARLE – Residents and business owners whose property was damaged in the severe thunderstorm outbreak June 13 east of Charlotte are reminded that they can apply this week for federal aid.

The U.S. Small Business Administration is taking assistance applications through Thursday at the diaster loan outreach center in the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center, 26032 Newt Road, in Albemarle.

Homeowners, renters and business owners can apply for low-interest loans or grants to help with the recovery. The storms knocked down hundreds of trees in Stanly County and in parts of Union, Cabarrus, Rowan, Montgomery, Anson and Richmond counties.

The disaster loan center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.
