Mudslide shuts down Avery County highway

WCNC.com staff

AVERY COUNTY, N.C.

Crews are working to maintain the site of a major mudslide in Avery County Tuesday.

Dispatchers say the Elk Park Highway is closed from Blevins Creek Road to the intersection of U.S. 19-E.

All heavy traffic has to take a detour from the highway to Three Mile Highway, then back to 221.

All normal passenger cars are allowed to take Blevins Creek Road, but authorities caution there is flood damage along the road, as well.
