Butler student chosen for year in Germany

By Reid Creager
Correspondent

Mackenzie Fiss of Matthews, who just finished her junior year at Butler High, received a full-year scholarship to Germany beginning in August through the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange.

The CBYX Scholarship is a student exchange program between Germany and the United States. The U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag (Parliament) sponsor the scholarship, which allows 250 American high school students to live and study in Germany.

The program seeks to foster cultural understanding and diplomacy while promoting the German and English languages. A high emphasis is placed on learning the political systems of each country.
