A Rock Hill man who answered his front door without any clothes on faces attempted rape charges after police say he assaulted a woman who refused to have sex with him on Saturday.

Police were sent to a Simrill Street home after receiving a 911 call in which a woman did not speak with dispatchers but screamed, “Don’t hurt me anymore!” over the line, according to a Rock Hill police report. When officers went to the house, they heard screaming.

Police knocked on the door and a nude man answered it, the report states. Police told him to put his pants on and then step outside. He smelled of alcohol, police said, and “seemed intoxicated.”

An officer walked inside the house and found a woman, 44, in the bedroom crying and shaking. The woman suffered bruises and a “large amount” of her hair had been pulled out.

The woman told police the man started beating her when she refused to have sex with him, the report states. She grabbed a small knife and warned the man to stay back, but he wrestled the knife from her, putting the blade to her chest and choking her with his other hand.

The man threatened to kill her and started to undress, the victim told police. He then tried to force her into sex just as officers arrived.

EMS took the woman to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment.

Palmer Lumpkin, 41, was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and assault with the intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.
