Crews look for missing Catawba fisherman

Catawba County authorities are searching along the Catawba River for a man who has not been seen since he went fishing shortly before dark Tuesday evening.

Emergency management officials say the search is focused in an area near Oxford Dam, along Lookout Shoals Lake. A man told authorities he and a friend went fishing shortly before 8 p.m. The man said his friend walked down the bank of the river to find another fishing spot. When the man went looking for his friend later, he couldn’t find him.

The missing man is identified as Zoua Pa Chang, 30, of Claremont. WCNC-TV, the Observer’s news partner, says it was told by authorities that the missing man has a history of medical seizures.

Crews along the shore and in the water began looking for the missing man after daybreak Wednesday.
