Locals guide to Spartanburg restaurants
New Panthers cornerback D.J. Moore grew up in Spartanburg before leaving for Vanderbilt and then the NFL. He recommends five places for Panthers fans to eat in the Sparkle City.
The Beacon Drive-In: Think The Varsity in Atlanta, without the traffic.
Moores take: Chili Cheese A-Plenty. Extra onion rings, fries, the box is extra greasy. Theres always a guy at the front taking your order. You cant understand what he said. Youd try to copy it.
255 John B. White Sr. Blvd.; (864) 585-9387; $
Wild Wing Cafe: Well-known chain restaurant has lots of TVs and draft beer, and is walking distance to Woffords campus.
Moores take: Ive been there before, but I dont eat wings much anymore. You go when you want to watch TV, watch games.
109 W. Main St.; (864) 585-4646; $$
Yannis: Greek and Italian specialties, located in LeBaron Plaza.
Moores take: I always get lasagna. Its some of the best lasagna Ive eaten. Its hard to find good lasagna.
2600 E. Main St.; (864) 948-9400; $
Mon Amie Morning Cafe: One of Spartanburgs best brunch spots, featuring crepes, eggs Benedict and a Monte Cristo sandwich at lunch. Not open for dinner.
Moores take: Everything tastes good. You cant go wrong with breakfast.
2601 E. Main St.; (864) 541-7981; $
Gerhards Cafe: Fine dining, with a focus on traditional German and Austrian fare. A favorite of former Panthers coach John Fox. Trivia contests on Tuesday nights.
Moores take: Ive never been there. Everybody says its good.
1200 E. Main St.; (864) 591-1920; $$
