Traffic shift tonight on I-85 at I-485

Another traffic shift that is part of the “turbine interchange” project at Interstate 85 and I-485 in northeast Mecklenburg County is scheduled to take place Thursday night, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

It will be the second shift so far in the project. The change had been scheduled for Wednesday night but was postponed because of the thunderstorm outbreak.

The shift, scheduled for 9 p.m., will move traffic to a new exit ramp from southbound I-85 to the inner loop of I-485. Currently, traffic exiting I-85 to I-485’s inner loop use a two-way ramp, with traffic on the other side of the ramp moving from I-485’s outer loop to southbound I-85. That part of the ramp will remain in use after Thursday night’s switch, for about two more weeks.
