Rep. Samuelson gets conservation award

Rep. Ruth Samuelson, R-Mecklenburg, is the N.C. Wildlife Federation’s legislator of the year for her support of land and water trust funds and renewable-energy standards.

The federation has presented the Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards since 1958. Among other top award winners this year: Dick Ludington of the Conservation Fund, conservationist of the year, and Cary video game developer Tim Sweeney, land conservationist.

Among Charlotte-area winners: The Fork Farm & Stables in Norwood, business conservationist of the year; Sgt. Chad Arnold of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, wildlife enforcement officer.

The awards will be presented at a Sept. 7 banquet in Cary. Bruce Henderson
