The Mint Hill Army Junior Legion baseball team claimed the N.C. Junior Legion state tournament championship July 23, defeating Kernersville back-to-back in the double-elimination tournament.In Game 1, Mint Hill used a five-run fourth-inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The team won 9-3.After being down 3-1 to start Game 2, Mint Hill came from behind to take a 5-3 lead after four innings. Kernersville tied the game at 5 in the fifth, but Mint Hill sealed the win and the championship by putting together three runs in the top of the eighth inning.Mint Hill, coached by Steve Baucom, Dave Kerr and Darryl Simmons, finished the year 20-2.
