West Florence Post 1 scored the only run of the game in the second inning and defeated Conway Post 111 1-0 to win the American Legion State Junior Championship on Thursday at Rock Hill High School.
West Florence got its run in the bottom of the second without the aid of a hit. Cody Greene walked and Marion McCutcheon reached on an error.
Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Ben Gerth.
Noah Matthews walked to load the bases. After the second out, Cal Butler walked to score Greene.
West Florence had several other scoring opportunities, leaving the bases loaded in the first and fourth innings. Post 1 also had base runners in the third, fifth, and sixth frames, but could not score.
Winning pitcher Jack Henry Beasley retired the first 11 Conway batters before issuing a pair of walks in the top of the fourth. He got out of the inning with no damage.
Conway got a pair of runners aboard in the fifth and one in the sixth but could not manage a score.
Conway threatened in the top of the seventh against reliever Nate Williams. With one out, Mason Mabry singled and Blake Jordan reached on an error.
Ben Canfield walked to load the bases. Wiliiams got out of the jam and picked up a save by getting a force out at home plate on a ground ball and a groundout to end the game.
Beasley allowed only two hits in six inings. He walked five and struck out two, but pitched out of a couple of jams.
Colby Ard was the losing pitcher. He allowed only one hit in four innings before being relieved by Bryce McCord.
