CMS Sponsored Camp

Debate camp: CMS is sponsoring a Camp For Forensic Excellence (CAFFE) Aug. 5-8 at Myers Park High School. The speech and debate camp is open to all middle and high school students. Coaches will prepare novices and experienced debaters for the upcoming season. Space is available. Registration may be done in advance or at the door. Olympic High

Technology donations: The school is asking for donations to support its Bring Your Own Technology initiative for Math, Engineering, Technology and Science students (METS). Donations such as laptops, tablets, eReaders, iPod touches, chargers, power strips and USB flash drives may be dropped off at the METS office on Sandy Porter Road.

Carmel Middle

Open house: The seventh and eighth grade open house will be held 3:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 21.

The sixth grade open house will be held 4:30- 6 p.m. Aug. 21.

Community House Middle

Open house: The open house for all grades will be held Aug. 23 at the following times: 10-11 a.m. for new seventh- and eighth-graders for whom this will be their first year at CHMS; 1-2:30 p.m. for rising sixth-graders with last name starting with A – L; 3:30-5 p.m. for rising sixth-graders with last name M – Z.

Crestdale Middle

Open house: The school will hold an open house drop-in 1-3 p.m. Aug. 23.

McAlpine Elementary

Principal appointment: Dina Modine will become principal at McAlpine Elementary. Modine is currently an assistant principal at Elizabeth Lane Elementary. She holds degrees from the University of Houston and Louisiana State University.

Jay M. Robinson Middle

Open house: The school will hold an open house 1-3:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Information about homeroom and transportation for students will be mailed in mid-August.

Ballantyne Elementary

Open house: The school will hold an open house for first to fifth grades4-6 p.m. Aug. 22. Open house for kindergartners will be held 7:45-8:30 a.m. Aug. 30.

Greenway Park Elementary

Open house: The school will hold an open house 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Parents are asked to join the PTA. The PTA dues are $5.

Polo Ridge Elementary

Open house: Back to school open house will be held Aug. 23. Students in kindergarten to second grades may visit between 9-10:30 a.m. Students in third to fifth gradesmay visit between 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Students are requested to bring all of their school supplies.

Rama Road Elementary

Open house: An ice cream social and open house will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 22.

Discovery School: Rama Road Elementary will be the only Discovery School in North America for the 2013-2014 school year. Students will focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) elements in their project-based learning, which will also be related to local community issues.
