Stallings town manager leaving for county job

Stallings’ town manager of nearly a dozen years is leaving to take a job with Union County.

Brian Matthews told council members last week that he will be the executive director of growth management for the county, Stallings Mayor Lynda Paxton said Monday. The job is a new position and part of a reorganization, with planning and building code enforcement forming the new growth management service area.

Matthews is leaving Sept. 9, and the town needs to find an interim manager as well as make plans to hire a permanent one. Paxton said no one on the town’s staff is qualified to step in as interim manager.

Matthews was not available for comment Monday.
