Sinkhole reported in Davidson

Officials in Davidson have closed a portion of South Street after a small sinkhole appeared in the roadway Monday morning.

The hole is about a foot wide, according to town officials, and is not far from Davidson Elementary School. The road is closed between the school and the covered bridge leading to the Antiquity neighborhood in Cornelius.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg utilities officials are working to repair the hole, one of many that has formed in recent weeks following heavy rain events. A branch of the West fork of the Rocky River forms not far from the area.

There is no word as to how long the road will be closed.
