Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the city’s latest homicide took place during an attempted robbery late Tuesday night on West Sugar Creek Road near Interstate 85.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Miguel Garcia Sanchez. No suspects have been arrested, police say.
The shooting apparently took place shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Sugar Creek Road, not far from Reagan Drive and Interstate 85.
Investigators say Sanchez and a friend were sitting in their car in a gas station parking lot when they were approached by a man who pulled a gun and demanded money. During the attempted robbery, Sanchez was shot.
The gunman fled. The getaway vehicle initially was described as a dark-colored sedan.
Sanchez was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center, but he died overnight from his injuries. Homicide detectives spent much the night scouring the area near the shooting.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.
