Charlotte Housing Authority Scholarship Fund honors students

One hundred and three new and current Charlotte Housing Authority Scholarship Fund recipients received more than $165,000 in scholarships during the organization's 30th annual Awards & Recognition Ceremony on July 28.

Penny Smith (Central Piedmont Community College) was named Senior of the Year. Quentez Phillips (UNC Charlotte) is Junior of the Year; Ayonna Richardson (N.C. Central) is Freshman of the Year. There was no applicant for top sophomore.

Quentez received the $1,500 Samuel Lerner Scholarship, Amea Ferrell the $1,000 Levine Scholarship.

Other winners: Charles & Dorothy Earp Scholarship ($1,000) -- Sharisse Berry, Miles Brydie, Yanasti Craddock, Ashanti Evans, Daisha Holloman, Evodie Kayembe, Javari Parks and Patrice Wilson; Carole Ann Hoefener Scholarship ($750) -- Juwan Byers; James G. Babb Jr. Scholarship ($500) -- Sierra Kennedy, Tre’meeka Perkins and Nikia Wilder; Incentive Awards -- Sean Able, Tenisha Catlin, Elisara Ieremia, Yasmine Sanders and Geoffrey Watson Jr.
