Substitute teacher charged with assaulting 5-year-old student

A substitute teacher is accused of assaulting a 5-year-old student, according to Gastonia police.

Police charged 26-year-old Christopher Diaone Alexander with assault on Tuesday.

Alexander, who lives in Gastonia, is accused of grabbing the 5-year-old by the neck and groin, and pinching the child’s groin, according to police.

The alleged incident happened at Rhyne Elementary School in Gastonia on May 31.

Alexander was jailed, but released on bond, according to Gaston Sheriff’s Office records. He was also charged for an outstanding warrant for missing a court date related to a driving while license revoked charge last year. Observer staff writer Cleve R. Wootson Jr. contributed.
