No injuries were reported early Friday in a fire that heavily damaged a home in southwest Gaston County.
The blaze was reported shortly before 2:45 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of Badger Drive. That is off Grissom Road, in the Crowders Mountain area of the county.
Chris Stowe of Crowders Mountain Fire and Rescue said firefighters found a one-story residence heavily involved in flames when they arrived. He said fire was coming from the roof, windows and doors.
Once crews determined the residence was vacant, they battled the blaze in a defensive measure, preventing the fire from spreading. The blaze was extinguished in about 40 minutes, Stowe said.
About 25 firefighters from the Crowders Mountain, Union Road, Bethany-Santiago and Bethel fire departments battled the blaze. Stowe said the home’s residents were staying elsewhere when the fire broke out.
There is no word as to the cause of the blaze.
