FORT MILL TOWNSHIP A large shopping center could be the latest growth in the Gold Hill Road area, which is seeing its fair share lately.
Eastwood Homes recently applied for a rezoning at 1876 Gold Hill Road in Tega Cay. More than 10 acres would be rezoned there to a higher density business district than what’s already allowed. According to the petition, the new zoning is designed “to support county-wide or regional shopping centers, and business complexes of greater magnitude than permitted” currently.
That rezoning is scheduled to appear before York County Council on Oct. 7.
A public hearing and rezoning request is for first reading on the goat farm property at 2565 Hwy. 160 West is on the agenda for Monday’s County Council meeting. M/I Homes is the applicant for almost 62 acres that would become a planned development. A mixed use residential development is being sought, according to the petition, that would include a “mixture of housing types” and lot sizes.
The property received conditional approval from the county planning commission in July. Dave Pettine, planning and development director for the county, said last week that the required public hearing would take place at first reading.
“The public hearing for that item will be on Monday, Aug. 19,” he said.
Several other projects countywide show a growing interest in rezoning for development. Last week the county planning commission reviewed six rezoning requests. All six received recommendations that Council approve them.
“They were pretty straightforward,” said Commissioner Joe Baird.
