Charlotte 49ers special teams: Competition keen for kicker, snapper

Senior Brandon Strupp, a transfer from Division II Concord (W.Va.), won the punting job. Strupp mostly kicked field goals for Concord, where he was an all-West Virginia Intercollegiate Conference selection. He is an East Lincoln High alumnus.

Stephen Muscarello (Porter Ridge) and Blake Brewer (Cannon School) battled hard for the kicker’s job in the preseason.

Another spot still up for grabs is long snapper, where Zach Bumgarner (Hickory St. Stephens) and Keaston Sinicki (Charlotte Catholic) both have high school experience.

Return duties will likely fall to Martay Mattox (kickoff) and Mikel Hunter (punt), with Austin Duke, Corey Nesmith and Tank Norman also there as possibilities. David Scott
