$20,000 backhoe stolen in Lenoir

LENOIR – Police in Lenoir are trying to solve the theft of a backhoe from a highway construction site earlier this month.

Police say employees discovered on the morning of August 5 that someone had taken a yellow 1995 Caterpillar backhoe. The backhoe, a 416B model, had been parked near the U.S. 321-Norwood Street interchange project.

Officials of Mount Airy-based Sowers Construction, which owned the machine, said it was worth $20,000.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Lenoir police, 828-757-2100, or Crime Stoppers, 828-758-8300.
