Polish Mass on Sunday will include relic from Pope John Paul II

A Catholic Mass in both Polish and English will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Sunday (August 25) at Charlotte’s St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1400 Suther Road. The Mass will be in honor of Our Lady of Czestochowa, a version of Mary honored among Polish Catholics.

The Rev. Matt Nycz, a Polish priest from Buffalo, N.Y., will say the Mass. He will bring with him a relic of the late Pope John Paul II, who was Polish. This object of veneration is a piece of clothing with a drop of blood from the pope on the day he was shot in 1981.

Confessions in Polish and English will be heard, starting at 1:30 p.m. Polish and American food will be served at a reception after the Mass. Details: 704-628-7209. – Tim Funk
