Eastway Drive reopens after wreck

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Eastway Drive is open again after being closed for several hours after an overnight wreck.

Police say they closed the road between Central Avenue and Kilborne Avenue after a vehicle slammed into a power pole and then hit a fire hydrant about 3 a.m. It took place in the 2500 block of Eastway, near Dunlavin Way, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The crash knocked down power lines, and that portion of Eastway Drive was closed until about 10:30 a.m. Police say that a short time after the wreck, a van on Eastway Drive slammed into a CMPD patrol car. No injuries were reported, but police say charges are pending in the case.
