Gastonia police have charged a man who they say killed his roommate and then dismembered him with a hacksaw.

Investigators say Brian Scott Hord, 33, was arrested late Tuesday night. He lived with the victim, 68-year-old Richard Lee Gentry, in the 1100 block of Little Avenue, near Airline Road.

Gastonia Police Capt. Steve Duncan said the Gentry had been dismembered with a saw.

According to Duncan, Hord called a woman described as possibly his ex-wife or girlfriend and told her what had happened. She in turn called police, Duncan said.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they said Hord answered the door and let them in. After a search, they found several plastic bags in the bedroom containing Gentry’s body parts.

Duncan said Gentry had suffered trauma to the head but that it didn’t appear he’d been shot or stabbed. An autopsy was to be performed Wednesday.

Duncan said Hord and Gentry had known each other for several years but that Hord had moved into Gentry’s apartment only about two or three months ago.

The homicide occurred after the two men got into some type of disagreement, Duncan said.
