A 22-year-old father of two is dead after another car collided with his family’s SUV early Saturday.
Marco Antonio Torres Perez of Mooresville was driving with family at 1:13 a.m. on Mooresville Road in Davidson when a 2004 Chevy Impala driven by Derek Kraig Seyerle, 21, of Davidson, collided with his 2004 Cadillac, said N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Vickers.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.
His partner, Marilyn Manciabelloso, as well as his 8-year-old son were taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Vickers said.
Perez’s 2-year-old daughter, who was in the backseat with his son, was not injured, Vickers said.
Seyerle told authorities he was traveling west on Mooresville Road about 65 mph, which is 10 miles over the posted speed limit, Vickers said.
Seyerle cut through a curve that had a recommended speed of 45 mph, ran off the road to the right and overcorrected, according to Vickers.
He said Seyerle crossed left of center and hit Perez’s car, which was traveling east.
Seyerle’s passenger, 21-year-old Kyle Kercher, was thrown from the car and airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center.
Seyerle has been charged with misdemeanor death, Vickers said.
