‘Tailgate Guru’ at
World Market opening
Southern Living Contributing Editor Rebecca Gordon will host a cooking demonstration and food tasting from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at the new Cost Plus World Market opening at Cotswold Village Shops, 330 S. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte. This will be one of several free events set for the store’s opening weekend. All events are free and open to the public.
NoDa Brewing benchmarks
NoDa Brewing announced earlier this week it will begin offering 16 oz. cans of selected beers later this month. The signature IPA, Hop, Drop ’n Roll, and pale ale Jam Session will be available at bottle stores, specialty markets, bars and restaurants in the metro Charlotte area in late September and in supermarket chains within a year.
The cans will also be featured at Bank of America Stadium staring in October. The Daily Meal also named the local stadium fourth of the seven best in the NFL for its craft beer offerings. Details: bit.ly/17kaUol.
Pumpkin Spice at Krispy Kreme
Through Nov. 27, a number of pumpkin spice items will return to Krispy Kreme locations, such as Pumpkin Spice doughnuts and the espresso-based Pumpkin Spice latte. New this season is the Pumpkin Cheesecake doughnut, which is a combination of cheesecake and pumpkin-flavored filling, topped with cream cheese icing and a gingersnap cookie crumble. Fall cooking courses
Registration is open for Central Piedmont Community College’s fall cooking courses. New offerings this session include “Rajun Cajun” and “Korean Cooking.” Class sizes are limited to 10 students and course costs vary. For full course offerings, details and to register: bit.ly/1a3Ot77.
Old-time ice cream social
The Charlotte Folk Society’s seventh annual Old-Time Music Jam and Ice Cream Social will be 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Hezekiah Alexander Homesite, 3500 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte. This free event is part of a larger weekend of activities at the Charlotte Museum of History. Organizers said ice cream will be available till it runs out – which has usually been around 4 p.m. The event also features story-telling, music, clogging and more. Details: www.folksociety.org.
Barbecue for Barium Springs
The 19th annual Bethel Presbyterian Church’s barbecue, bake sale and silent auction will be Sept. 26 at 1920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius. Silent auction bidding will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and community members can drive through, eat in, or carry out barbecue dishes from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Delivery is available for orders of 10 or more in the Lake Norman area.
