Charlotte-based Meineke Car Care Centers said Wednesday it plans to double the number of stores it operates over the next five years.
The franchising company currently has 960 units in 48 states. Meineke plans to double its store count by seeking out more single- and multi-store franchisees to open new locations with the promise of discounts and reduced royalty fees.
In the expansion, Meineke is targeting Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, and Seattle, among other markets.
Meineke sells tires, brakes, tune-ups and other services, in addition to its trademarked muffler service.
The company says it plans to take advantage of the increased age of cars on the road, which need more service than their newer counterparts. The average age of cars in the U.S. increased to 11.2 years in 2013, compared to 8.2 years in 2000, Meineke said.
