Motorcyclist killed on Sharon Amity; other driver charged

A man who police say was driving with a revoked license has been charged in connection with a fatal two-vehicle collision Thursday evening on North Sharon Amity Road.

Killed in the wreck was Paul Leggett Stephenson, 51. The other driver is identified by police as Kanyon Aionnie Carter, 39.

According to police, Stephenson was driving a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle in the right southbound lane of Sharon Amity Road , about halfway between Monroe and Randolph roads. Carter was northbound on Sharon Amity Road in a 2001 Lincoln Town Car, police say.

Investigators say the Lincoln made a turn into the path of the motorcycle. Stephenson, who was wearing a full-faced helmet, applied the brake and laid the motorcycle down, police say. But the Kawasaki slid across the sidewalk and then hit the side of the Lincoln.

Stephenson died at the scene.

Carter was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving while license revoked. Police say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
