Moped driver killed in Shelby

Police are expected to release more information Monday on a two-vehicle wreck late Saturday that left one man dead in Shelby.

According to police, the collision was reported shortly after 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of West Dixon Boulevard (U.S. 74) and Hamrick Street. That is near the Shelby Plaza Shopping Center.

The collision involved a 2006 Mercedes and a moped. The 48-year-old Cleveland County man driving the Mercedes was not hurt. Police have not released the name of the moped driver, saying they are working to contact relatives.

The wreck remains under investigation, police say.
