Charlotte 49ers golfer 2nd in Japan

The Charlotte 49ers shot a 9-over-par 289 to drop to fifth overall in a 10-team field at 5-over 565 at the Topy Cup in Tanagura, Japan. Washington leads at 16 under with one round remaining.

Charlotte senior Franco Castro is one shot behind the leader, Sam Love of Alabama-Birmingham, with a second-round 2-under 68. He is tied for second, two strokes behind Love.

• Valeriy Sviderskiy scored the winning goal for Davidson (3-0-1) in a 3-2 men’s soccer victory at home against Campbell (1-2). John Pace and Alec Rotunda also scored Wildcats goals.

• Felipe Netto scored the opening goal and Erick Suarez added two in the second half for Queens (2-1-0) in a 3-0 men’s home soccer victory against Mount Olive (0-3-0).
