Shelby trucker killed in Tennessee crash

COSBY, Tenn. – A truck driver from Shelby was among two people killed Monday morning in a crash on Interstate 40 in extreme eastern Tennessee, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Ricky McCurry, 50, died when his truck slammed into a tractor-trailer on the shoulder of westbound I-40 near mile marker 442, troopers say.

Also killed was Elmer Ball, 33, of Cosby, Tenn. Ball was a passenger in the truck that McCurry’s vehicle struck.

According to investigators, trucker driver Roger Hawk, of Hartford, Tenn., had stopped his truck on the shoulder of the road because of another collision. He and Ball got out of the vehicle to wait.

A short time later, McCurry’s truck went off the travel lanes of I-40 and hit the parked truck.
